Hello good people!
I've been a med patient for about 3 years now. Been thinking about growing my personal supply for awhile now. Well, my chance found me as I was given three plants that were started about mid Sept. They were kept in small pots trying to limit the growth until now as their fate was unknown and threatened before I inherited them.
I am a total, complete and ignorant newbie at this so please pardon just how oblivious I might seem to be here. I am starting to do some research now but thought I would as a few questions here.
First off, some pics of my new plants and my initial "grab what I have laying about" setup:
www.michaelchung-design.com/phot...3009/
I have them in pots that seem adequate for now. I have indirect sunlight and three 23watt flouro bulbs about 4 feet above the tops of the plants. How does that seem to work out for now? I plan to keep them on (the lights) all day for a bit letting them grow up.
Also, they are Black Domina strain.
They are in soil and I water the pots to where they don't feel more than moderately damp on top (on the average) and do not get crispy dry either. Does that sound about right? The only thing I have grown until now are a couple of cacti and they are pretty resilient and don't need to be watered too often so I really don't know how to go about cannabis.
Some other related questions are:
1. When should I move them to bigger pots?
2. When do I know to start cycling the lights so they can start blooming?
Thanks!
MC

Re: My first grow...
Fri, October 30, 2009 - 4:35 PMfirst thing.,get your flourescents about as close as you can.,6--8 inches is great--be carefull not to over water.,in pots every few days up to a week.,depending on how warm your set up--warmer takes more water--you dont want them to get over dry--it will wilt--sure sign give them liquid love--sparingly--one beginners mistake--overwatering., -

Fri, October 30, 2009 - 4:44 PMCool - will move them upwards. Is it ok that the leaves closest to the soil are a bit yellow compared to the tops? A few have dried off.

Re: My first grow...
Fri, October 30, 2009 - 4:55 PMthats natural.,bottoms usually do their job and then yellow--when their dry pull the dry leaves off--less pest and helps the plant.,yellowing leaves could be a sign of time for a little fertilizer--i like fish.,for a start.,liquid fish fertilizer is potent.,1 or two tablespoons in a quart of water will set you up.,make sure the water is at room temperature when you water.,cold water gives em the willies.,
anyways.,goodluck--stay safe., -

Re: My first grow...
Wed, November 11, 2009 - 3:49 PMWell...
Went on a trip for about a week. The plants were doing ok when I left. But upon my return, they seemed a bit droopy and a bit more "crspy".
Does this indicate I need to water more? Or should I add more fertlizer? The color of the upper leaves is pretty similar but just tad bit lighter and just a hint of more yellow vs. green.
Notes:
While I was gone, I had a roommate feel the soil about an inch down while the plants were good. I had him water accordingly and while I was gone for a week, he gave the plants about 8 ounces (total) of water each over two waterings.
When I came home, the soil felt drier so I gave them about 6 ounces each. They have not continued to decline since but a bit worried - the runt is going downhill though.
Peace!

Wed, November 11, 2009 - 4:08 PM<< they seemed a bit droopy and a bit more "crspy".
Does this indicate I need to water more?>>
check humidity .... prob too low .... no need to feed clones if put in good soil with enough organic nutrients (add some chiken manure, worm castings, or some high N Bat guano to soil) ... too much water or too lil is no good .... just moist with a water spray the soil ... temp too hot or too clold ? temp range (from low to high) too high ? water PH ? soil PH ? there is a lot of detail .....

Wed, November 11, 2009 - 4:43 PMHumidity is low in the desert we call LA. Maybe I will spray m plants and soil vs. watering so much. Thanks!!!! -

Re: My first grow...
Wed, November 11, 2009 - 4:46 PMToo Low humidity is not good for small clones ... but is great for flowering since it inhibits mold ... there is a learning curve ; )
(btw .. for a small donation i can help you set up ; )
