Before I got my card and went into a dispensary, I never knew about the differences between the two. I had heard the words, but never bothered to research what they meant, never came up in any conversations. It's now making me wonder what you're getting when you purchase elsewhere. So what is it when you buy on the street? (I'm in Northern CA.)

indica has a stronger body load - "couch lock" and sativa more of a head high and less body load - in general
i prefer a sativa high but many with medical conditions find the indica more helpful - also, the indica is likely to have considerably higher percentage of cannobinoids which are now suspected to play a big role in the "medical" effectiveness of the plant.
for instance I have found that a pure indica helps my neuropathy in my feet which especially bothers me at night and an indica is perfect because indica tends also to help with sleep - whereas a sativa may keep you awake all night! But I have not found the sativas to provide me with any relief from the neuropathy
on the street you are going to find more indica because it gives a much better yield and most people are going to grow sativas more for themselves. But you're dispensaries seem to have an awesome selection and a knowledgeable person there could proabably make helpful suggestions given your exact medical condition? -

But in general the game is to get the weed to grow like an indica and smoke like a sativa and since indica grow faster and yield heavier weight, most growers growing for sale are going to go with an indica. Why would a grower spend 12 weeks instead of 7 or 8 to bud a plant that is going to yield considerably less weight? If they did, they would have to charge $600.00 an ounce to make any money.

In other words, when you buy on the street.... You may get a sativa. You may get an indica. You may get a hybrid. You may or may not know or be able to find out what it is. Regardless...on the street you always get the same thing: whatever they have. You have no real choice...except to either buy or not buy.
In a medical dispensary...you get exactly what you want. They have hybrids, indicas and sativas. Take your pick. -

If I was to join some right wing nut tribe full of others of your ilk, then I might be considered a troll to you, but not in this tribe, Girly Man. Medical marijuana is LEGAL in this state and several others as well. And if you haven't noticed, the court of public opinion on the matter of legality of Cannabis nationwide is swinging left. Many are now believing that Marijuana should be as legal as tobacco and alcohol, far more dangerous drugs. Aamof, a bill has already been introduced in CA proposing legalization, regulation, and taxation of Marijuana.
